Netflix has won a bid over major cable networks for “House of Cards”, a series involving David Fincher as executive producer/director and starring Kevin Spacey, according to Deadline Hollywood.
No official announcement from anyone yet, so this should still be treated as rumor. With original content, Netflix would be in direct competition with HBO and Showtime, whose original content such as the series Dexter appears on the streaming service.
Update! Netflix posted an official press release here, stating “Netflix has committed to a minimum of 26 episodes of the Media Rights Capital drama, which is expected to be available to the more than 20 million Netflix members, beginning in late 2012.”
