
The recent “Mac Defender” malware fiasco has probably made a lot of people paranoid on the Mac OS platform lately. This malware which is essentially a phishing scam installs, with the users permission, a program that tricks users into paying for an antivirus solution that will get rid of pop up warnings for viruses.
Apple officially addressed the issue by posting a support article “How to avoid or remove Mac Defender Malware.” In the article Apple explains what the malware is and gives steps on how to avoid getting bit by it, and also how to remove it. Bottom line, be vigilant and don’t enter your password if you’re not sure why the request popped up.
