At a bright and early hour on Monday June 6, Microsoft held their E3 press conference. Last year featured the official unveiling of Kinect, the camera add-on that has sold millions. This year, Microsoft is continuing support of Kinect as well as bringing Halo back into the Xbox fold.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
They started off the conference with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 footage with the soldiers swimming though an underwater tunnel and eventually planting a bomb on a submarine and breaching it taking out the soldiers on the inside. This eventually led to a boat chase scene with Michael Bay elements all around. This game is being developed by Sledgehammer Studios and Infinity Ward Studios. November 8th release date.
The reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise was played. It featured Lara held captive wrapped up in a straight jacket hanging down has she works to escape. It remains a 3rd person gaming, with cinematic elements similar to the Uncharted series and the Dead Space series. Lara shows off some of here classic jumping skills, even while injured. The shooting elements were not shown in the demo. Set to release in Fall 2012.
Peter Moore can out on the Xbox Stage to announce Kinect support in Tiger Woods, Madden and FIFA. A representative of Bioware can out also to announce Kinect support for Mass Effect 3. Gamers will be able to speak the conversation branches instead of having to select them with the controller. It also can be used to send commands to your other troops like “move up”.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Ubisoft showed a trailer for their new game Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. This game is also Kinect enabled. Kinect will allow the user to modify their weapons and make selections. The guns can be fired by opening your hand while holding your other hand as a fist. They announced that all future Tom Clancy titles will support Kinect.
They show off a new Xbox dashboard, with Windows 7 tiles and complete voice control. It can be controlled by voice, motion and as well as a standard controller. Microsoft has announced YouTube support for Xbox Life. Bing is also coming to Xbox, searching Netflix, Hulu Plus and other content within the Xbox content. It makes it easy video content and gaming content.
In a big move, Live TV will come to the Xbox 360. They say they are working with content providers to get the Live TV channels.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
UFC content will be available on Xbox Live.
Gears of War 3
Cliffy B comes out to show off some new Gears of War 3 campaign footage with Ice-T. Huge creatures and small spiders are featured in this boss fight. Ice-T is bringing his band BodyCount for the Hoard Mode of Gears 3.
Crytek shows off a trailer for Codename Kingdoms, now known as Ryse featuring gladiator battles. This game takes place in the Roman era.
Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary
As a shock to probably no one, a new Halo game was announced. This is a remaster of the original Halo: Combat Evolved with HD graphics and new features including a multiplayer mode and Co-Op.
Turn 10 showcased their new entry into the racing genre. Great visuals of the cars in the showroom mode. It features Kinect control, Kinect Voice and Kinect head tracking. No actual gameplay footage, but the game looks great.
Fable: The Journey
Lionhead studios announced the next Fable game, a game that is said to add even more interactivity than what has been in the past. The trailer shows a darkness taking over the land and a damsel in distress. Game is in a first person view and is completely Kinect controlled. They show Kinect sitting down and working and combat, which is performed by moving your hands in a variety of directions.
Mincraft is being releasing on the Xbox 360 and Kinect.
A Kinect titles for kids. They can walk around Disneyland and interact with the environment, all without a parent supervising. Last year, the kids were given cats, now they’re getting some mice, some ducks a big goofy dog and a boy who doesn’t want to grow up. Out this winter.
Kinect Star Wars
Microsoft showed off the must talked about Kinect Star Wars. This game takes place though out the first III episodes of Star Wars and will allow the user to force push and swing their lightsabers with their hands. There was some leaked footage of this game recently here that shows it off.
Sesame Street: Once Upon A Monster
A Kinect game for kids developed by Double Fine. Features popular monsters like Elmo and Cookie Monster.
Kinect Fun Labs
Like an app store for Kinect and is available for all Xbox live users. Throw showed how Kinect can now just scan you and create an Xbox avatar that looks like you. They showed off finger tracking in a full 3D space. They also showed full object scanning. They scanned in a stuffed animal and controlled it with Kinect.
This is available today.
Kinect Sports: Season 2
Kinect Sports 2 was also announced, this time featuring Baseball, Golf, Skiing, Darts, Tennis and Football.
Dance Central 2
The popular launch title for the Kinect is returning with part two within a single year. As expected, new moves and new songs are present in the package. They also feature the ability for two people to dance at the same time, finally.
A teaser trailer for Halo 4 was show. Halo 4 is coming holiday 2012.
Microsoft had a very solid showing at E3 2011. They showed a lot of Kinect, as many feared, but they showed off excellent uses that most gamers, casual and core, should be excited for. They also claim to be the best selling console this year, which is very possible with this lineup.
