Just when you were beginning to feel safe on the Playstation Network… On the Official Playstation Blog, Sony’s Chief Information Security Officer Philip Reitinger announced that they “have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment (“Networks”) services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database.”
He says the attempts have mostly resulted in failed matches, so Sony believes the data came from somewhere other than their Networks. Reitinger believes only 0.1% of users may be affected and they have locked the accounts for review. Those accounts that had a successful match during the attempted breach will be required to reset their passwords.
It looks like a small issue right now, as a reminder, please keep a lookout on your account for suspicious activity, especially if you have your credit card attached to it!
