Polycom announces an update to its popular and award-winning mobile video software, RealPresence Mobile 1.3 by expanding availability to HTC One smartphones and the HTC Jetstream tablet, along with the new Apple iPad. On locaiton at their HQ, Polycom learned that RealPresence Mobile 1.3 also includes an innovative camera control feature to remotely control the camera on the other end of a video meeting allowing users to zoom in, pan, or tilt the camera to get a better look at the subject or the environment.

One of the examples Polycom demonstrated at the press junket was use cases for healthcare, for more in-depth patient consultations; educational settings, etc. The remote camera controller for panning the classroom or zooming in on a speaker or presentation was demonstrated using pinch and zoom gestures. Panning was simply done through pressing arrows or using a secondary gesture. It is one of the many demonstrations the video collaborating company demostrated. Another example included manufacturing plants, to closely examine the products such as circuit boards on the factory floor.

“At first we had only 5,000 devices, we now double this support to 10,000 devices simultaneously,” said SVP of Product and Marketing Jim Kruger. “We ‘re trying to reach the point where video will become ubiquitous and I believe we’re the company that can make it happen.”

Prior to the main press invitation, VP of Worldwide Industry & Field Marketing Randel Maestre showed off one of the company’s mobile apps and the advantages it had over Apple’s own Facetime. “Video collaboration is something more than just video chat,” said Maestre. RealPresence Mobile lets customers extend the use of video collaboration beyond the conference room to easily connect with other standards-based video environments virtually anywhere in the world, including immersive video theaters, conference rooms, desktop systems, laptops, and other mobile devices.

“With the explosive growth of mobile workforces and the increasing trend toward employees bringing their own devices into the workplace, Polycom and our partners are continually expanding the reach of secure video collaboration to support all devices, operating systems, protocols, and networks,” said Sudhakar Ramakrisha, President of Products and Services, Polycom. “No other company is delivering innovative video collaboration experiences on mobile devices like Polycom.”
