Taking a page out of the Demon’s Souls / Dark Souls playbook, Resident Evil 6 will feature a mode that will allow players to invade and stalk other players. This mode is called “Agent Hunt” and is a new mode found in Capcom’s hit franchise.
The mode will be unlocked after you finish the game. Multiple players can team up together using voice chat and hunt down the player or players in the game they’ve invaded. The protagonist in the level will not be able to hear the invading players conversation but they will be notified if any human players have joined the game. Like in Resident Evil 5, players can play in a “Rogue” like mode that will disable these functions and allow them to play solo.
A mode like this will give players a reason to stay engaged in the game beyond the Mercenaries games and score chasing. It will also add a bit of unknown to the game as you may never know when the player controlled character will pop up to kill you.
Resident Evil 6 has been getting some backlash from die-hard fans of the original games wanting more “scary” and less “action”. With the addition of this mode, I’m not convinced this will change the minds of those individuals.
Radford and I both had an opportunity to check out the Resident Evil 6 demo and, though scary was absent, the game looked to be a really fun action game and this new mode will only make the game more exciting.
