With the expansion of its 4GLTE network, AT&T plans to disassemble its 2G network fully by 2017. This means AT&T’s GSM and EDGE towers will cease to function; but since only 12% of AT&T’s current customers use 2G-only devices, it doesn’t seem like it’ll hurt their subscriber base. Plus, AT&T has high hopes they can convince those few customers to get at least a 3G device by then. Do you know anyone with an old school 2G phone? It probably still stays Cingular or Pac-Bell on the phone’s welcome screen.
