Gawker Media Websites are Hacked, Passwords are Compromised

Sean W. Dec 13, 2010 0

The Gawker media hub was hacked on Sunday and lots of passwords from the users as well as the staff was compromised.  If you have an account with any of related sites, they are asking that you change your password.  Gawker sites are Gawker.com, Kotaku.com, Jezebel.com, Gizmodo.com, among many others.

Other things obtained by the hacker was internal conversations, Gawkers source code and the email addresses of hundreds of thousand.  The hacker proceeded to create a 500MB file with this information and shared via torrents with others.

The hacker responsible is named Gnosis, and has expressed a large disrespect toward the Gawker media group.  This quote was added to the file that was released,

Your empire has been compromised, Your servers, Your database’s, Online accounts and source code have all be ripped to shreds! You wanted attention, well guess what, You’ve got it now!”
