Google Detectives Catch Bing Stealing Search Results

Sean W. Feb 1, 2011 2

Google ran a sting operation in order to catch Microsoft’s Bing stealing search results.  According to Google, Microsoft is using Internet Explorer 8 and the Bing toolbar to monitor the searches of users.

Google created a collection of gibberish words like “fsdfieeq” and linked them to nonsensical results. Google engineers installed IE 8 and the Bing tool bar to 20 computers and monitored the results.

According to Google, after a short while Bing started producing the same nonsensical results to the gibberish words.

Microsoft and Google have tussled before with Microsoft claiming Google copied features found only on Bing.  Looks like Google has found something on Microsoft.
