Looking at its Kickstarter page, CUBEDGE seems hellbent on making the right Bluetooth speaker. EDGE.sound joins a growing line of speakers that promise not only to bring big sound in a small package but seamless connectivity with a variety of Bluetooth devices not limited to the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone. But what’s really striking is the design itself. It’s closest competitor, the Jawbone Jambox, likes to make use of sharp alternate embossing of triangles and diamonds, making the device look less like a speaker and more like the rest of their Bluetooth headsets short of a plastic ear hook. The EDGE.sound speaker, however, shows off its better sense of industrial design by making use of rounded inner bevels that sweep cleanly into its mesh pores that seem almost reminiscent of the old school intercoms accented by a sliced corner that looks like the face of some role playing dice. But old school tech – this is not – and that sliced corner does do something:
The EDGE.sound boasts an output of 95db at 40Hz-20kHz – 10 more decibels than the Jambox at $50 less (or $100 if you’re one of their first 100 backers pledged at $100). Along with the requisite built-in mic, 10+ hours of battery life and built with eco-friendly materials, the EDGE.sound aims to be a very enticing option in the growing war of Bluetooth speakers. May 18, 2012: CUBEDGE, a product design company, is releasing its first Kickstarter project during the week of May 14th to fund the EDGE.sound. The EDGE.sound speaker measures in at 150 x 61 x 55mm and weights approx 350g. The portable speaker features sleek, elegant design, and using built-in bluetooth technology, you can conveniently connect the wireless speaker with your iPhone, Android phone and any Bluetooth-enabled music player, moreover, the stereo speakers featuring up to 95dB output and 40Hz-20kHz frequency range deliver you big, crisp, rich sound for your favorite music. Apart from that, the built-in rechargeable battery offers you 10 to 14+ hours of playback time, and the microphone allows you to use the portable speaker for Skype, iChat, FaceTime and more. The speaker is also environmentally friendly with no brominated flame retardant, no PVC, and a highly recyclable aluminum enclosure.
The funding goal for the Kickstarter project is $130,000. If the funding goal is reached by Thursday, June 28th, the project will be funded. Backers can pledge money in return for rewards like speakers in various colors, T-Shirts, and more. For more information, pictures, and media, visit the Kickstarter page.
