Today, the FTC announced that they will be taking action against a major marketer of goods. While there is no indication of specifically who it is directed towards, its speculated that it may be none other than EA. The FTC has also stated that there will be a Press Conference on Wednesday, May 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. ET, to announce a settlement with a major marketer of consumer goods in a case alleging deceptive advertising. While it is hard to say whether what company is getting the FTC’s attention or what kind of consumer good that they are referring to, “the buzzwords within the release from the FTC match in relation to Mass Effect 3′s jaded reception” according to the Techno Buffalo article.
While it may seem that the gaming community is quieting down over the backlash due to the ending of Mass Effect 3, Techno Buffalo speculates about if EA is found guilty, how would that affect the gaming industry as a whole and how the FTC would issue refunds to people who felt wronged by EA BioWare.
When the conference occurs, hopefully there will be clarification as far as how does this involve the consumer or a press release, and possibly how it does or does not relate to either EA or Mass Effect.
