Today, Skype made headlines stating that they have just acquired a group messaging service called GroupMe. This smartphone service is available on multiple platforms and has been a popular way for users to communicate in groups. Unlike Facebook Messenger and Google+ Huddle, you don’t have to be signed into a social network. Skype’s CEO Tony Bates blogged:
[GroupMe] complements our existing leadership in voice and video communications by providing best in class mobile text-based communications and innovative features around group messaging that enable users to connect, share locations and photos and make plans with their closest ties,”
Skype hasn’t yet stated what this will do for their mobile apps but we can only hope that it makes group chat easier to all on smartphones, computers and XBox360s worldwide.
