Marvel Comics Makes Deaf Superhero for a Boy with a Hearing Aid

BLUE Ear by Marvel Comics

Anthony Smith of New Hampshire is a four year old that loves superheroes.  He has the sheets, and the characters all over his bedroom wall.  He was also born without a right ear and has to wear a hearing aid on his other.  One day, he told his mother that he did not want to wear his hearing aid because his idols, the superheroes do not wear hearing aids.

His mother contacted Marvel Comics, asking if there was anything they can do to help Anthony and first, they sent over images of the Avenger Hawkeye, who is partially deaf and wears a hearing aid.  It seems that would have been enough for Anthony, but Marvel went the extra mile and created a new superhero for Anthony named “Blue Ear” after the name of his hearing aid.

This is a great heart warming story and you would think Marvel has no need to do this for publicity, as they have a resurgence in brand awareness from the recent Avengers film, and they are about to release Astonishing X-Men #51 featuring the first gay wedding in comics.
