SNK stands for sneaky because this is just plain sick. This is not the NeoGeo Pocket from back in the day. This is a brand spankin’ new portable that looks as if SNK raided Apple’s refurbished factories and stole a bunch of iPhones for their base designs.
When you were reading the headline, you were probably thinking of this one right?
Although it looks like Apple lent their design blueprint, the handheld is decked out in retrogame poetry. You have the single stick, 4 button setup found in the MVS NeoGeo with 20 classic arcade games that started various classic franchises from Metal Slug to Samurai Showdown all preloaded onto 2GB of internal memory.
The portable has a 4.3-inch screen, an SD card slot for whatever purpose. There’s also four shoulder buttons. Of course, we’ve seen these classics come up in many bundled forms for consoles and even portables like the PSP. Remember SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1?
But for retro lovers, the portable has a certain appeal that is modern yet undeniably irresistible to those reliving nostalgia. No word on pricing or availability as of yet, though. The reveal comes from Japanese game blog Famicom Plaza and is yet to be confirmed by SNK itself, so it’s probable that the device has leaked ahead of its time.
The question now remains: How much is this thing?
