So you’ve bought your new Android smartphone and you’re about to load up with some apps. The Google Play Store has hundreds of thousands of apps to choose from so it might be a little daunting. Where do you start? Of course, I already recommend to pay for apps since they only range from $1 to $3 but I understand the need to “try before you buy.” With that said, here are the top free apps I recommend:

  • Google Apps
  • Gmail
  • Google Maps
  • Google Earth
  • Google Drive
  • Google Search
  • YouTube
  • Voice Search
  • Google Play Music
  • Your Social Networking Apps:
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Twitter Official App
  • Tweetcaster
  • Seesmic
  • Pintrest
  • Google+
  • Instagram
  • Foursquare
  • Shopping Apps:
  • Google Goggles
  • Google Offers
  • Groupon
  • Amazon
  • eBay
  • ShopKick
  • Barcode Scanner
  • Cloud Storage Apps:
  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
  • Box
  • Productivity Apps:
  • Your Bank (ie Wells Fargo)
  • CrowdCall
  • Package Buddy
  • Flashlight
  • Evernote
  • Adobe Flash
  • Adobe Reader
  • Games:
  • Temple Run
  • Angry Birds
  • Smurf Village
  • Cytus
  • Paper Toss
  • Draw Something
  • Words With Friends
  • Video Calling Apps:
  • Skype
  • Tango
  • ooVoo
  • Google+ (Hangouts)
  • Music Apps:
  • Google Play Music
  • MP3 Music Download
  • Slacker
  • Pandora
  • Alternative App Stores:
  • Amazon App Store
  • Hooked Search Engine
  • GetJar
  • Security Apps:
  • Lookout
  • Where’s My Droid
There you have it. All the apps are free but some of them do offer a premium service. Sometimes that will be a one time or a monthly cost. Nevertheless, whenever people ask me what apps they should download, I always recommend these. Hope this helps someone!
