If you’ve got the urge to see people as well as hear people, you must have used Facetime on the iPhone. With iOS 6, Facetime will work over the cellular network as well as WiFi. On AT&T, if you want to use this feature, you have to have a Mobile Share family data plan. Launching on August 23rd, Mobile Share will allow 10 data devices share a blanket of gigabytes and megabytes. According to an AT&T spokesman:
AT&T will offer FaceTime over Cellular as an added benefit of our new Mobile Share data plans, which were created to meet customers’ growing data needs at a great value. With Mobile Share, the more data you use, the more you save. FaceTime will continue to be available over Wi-Fi for all our customers.
So there you have it. If you want to use FaceTime over the wireless network, you got to make the switch. There’s no word if other carriers like Sprint or Verizon are going to do the same. Do you use FaceTime enough to make this a problem for you or is it worth the plan switch?
