We didn’t get a chance to see what all the commotion was about at the Microsoft’s CES booth but we did notice a sign denoting that the Windows Phone team would give $100 to anyone who could beat a their phones through common tasks like sharing a photo or emailing someone. “I’ve got $100 that says your phone isn’t as fast as a Windows Phone” the sign said. And boy, did it get alot of detractors and haters in the mix. While covering stuff on XBox and Windows 8, we walked into the middle of the challenges. At the end of the day, they came away with 30 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw.
It was a friendly contest where the PC guy Benjamin Rudolph pits his WP7 Mango-based Titan goes against the best of the best from the competing mobile OSs. Here’s his introduction to the contest and his wager on taking Windows Phone to the CES floor against the competition.
Here were the phones they smoked: iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, Galaxy Nexus, ATT Skyrocket, Droid Charge, Droid Bionic, various BlackBerries, Palm Pre Plus.
And the ones they lost to: iPhone 4s (posted a picture to twitter just a hair faster), Droid Bionic (got an SMS to a friend a smidge faster than I did), and Galaxy Nexus (also posting a photo to Twitter)
“Hi, I’m Mr. Android and I got smoked by a Windows Phone.”
And to be fair, here is a Microsoft/Adobe guy armed with a Nexus who actually won and got a Benjamin for his win:
