Rocketfish My Way Case With Stand Review (New iPad Accessory)

I recently purchased a new iPad 3rd generation. Even with the plethora of cases we’ve reviewed here on LTG, I didn’t have a case for a New iPad. For a quick and inexpensive case I headed over to Best Buy. Rocketfish has a few good accessories for gaming, computers and home theater. I was happy to find a Rocketfish case for $39.99 called the My Way Case With Stand. I was a little taken aback when I saw the iPad was only being held in by 4 bands on each corner; but after a few days, I feel confident they are strong enough to hold the iPad in place.

What drew me to the case was the stick that read “Works With The New iPad.” It couldn’t have been more clearer than that. The overall cover has a plastic “leather” feel but its cushioned. I do feel that if I were to drop the iPad, the case would break the fall. The case leaves all the main ports and buttons open for easy access. Whether the case is opened or closed, you can charge the iPad, fix the volume or plug in headphones.

With the case open, you’ll notice a build-in strap on the left side of the case. This will all you to put your hand through so you’ll be able to hold the iPad from behind with one hand. You’ll also notice a spot for a pen or stylus in the middle of the case; a perfect place for a useful tool.

To stand up the iPad, open up the case all the way, then gently place the left side of the iPad in one of the grooves of the front cover like so:

It has two grooves depending on the viewing angle you want. While open the grooves keep the iPad in place; I never had a issue of the iPad slipping from the grooves. But I did have one concern: the camera. As you can see by the photo below, the cut out for the camera seems to cover the lens. I was afraid that when taking a photo with the case on, you would see a shadow or an outline of the cutout on the right side of photographs. Luckily, this was not the case. It was, however, a challenge to take a picture. You can’t put the flap behind the iPad because you’ll cover the camera. And unless you’re hold the iPad in landscape, trying to take a photo in portait mode with the cover is very difficult.

I’m fairly happy with this case. It’s not equipped with a smart cover so you have to turn it off/on manually. Other than that, for $39.99 retail, it’s a pretty good deal. Best Buy does offer this case with other strap colors as well. If you’re looking for an inexpensive case suggestion, I confidently recommend the Rocketfish My Way Case With Stand.
